About the event

What

a 5 day workshop at the famous Sturt Gallery & School, where the first 3 days you'll be working with renowned textile artist Sylvia Riley to create a number of fabrics using eco-dyeing. You'll learn how to prepare fabrics and yarns for dyeing, apply mordents and dye fabrics using foraged and prepared natural dyes. Then augment the dyed fabric using post-mordents and modifiers, using various techniqes including brushes, block prints, stencils and shibori, to create your own totally unique fabric.

During the final 2 days you'll work with me (Kate Malfroy) to create 2 lampshades using your fabrics.  One of these is suitable for use with a table, pendant or floor lamp;  and you can choose between making a drum or tapered shape for this shade.

The 2nd shade is a tall drum shape, which is designed to fit a beautiful Sturt-made wooden lampbase, which is yours to take home.

The skills you'll learn in both parts of this workshop will be useable on your textile projects for years to come.
