Made by Me Workshop, 100A May St, St Peters NSW 2044, Australia

About the event

What

Participants will not only be going home with their own fabulous, unique lampshade, but will get a thorough grounding into the art of modern lampshade making, where the fabric is bonded to the lampshade wall (no sewing is involved 😄).

You'll have a choice of making either a drum or tapered shape shade - medium size - suitable for a table lamp.

When

In this beginner-level workshop there is a min. of 6 and max. of 10 students - so you are guaranteed personal attention.

It is followed same day by the Lined Lampshade Workshop -  if you want to have a whole day of lampshade luxury, then you're very welcome to join us for both workshops!

Where

Made by Me Workshop is located in a beautiful historic factory building in the heart of lovely St Peters.

Please note:  Bookings are via the Made by Me website

Difficulty

  • No prior knowlegde or skills are required for this workshop.  I'll be taking you step by step through each stage of the process - although it is a little fiddly - I'll be doing my best to make this as easy and fun as possible!
  • Note on the 2 shade types:  DRUM shade is less fiddly than TAPERED (this is only recommended for very handy folk, or anyone who's made lampshades previously)
  • Minimum age 16years
  • Physical dexterity is required in the form of using scissors to cut fabric and other materials accurately, and to use your hands to perform many procedures.

What's included

  • All the supplies you'll need are included (except fabric*).. this includes professional quality adhesive backings, frames, and tools
  • Morning tea (with homemade yummies)
  • Notes summarising everything you learnt in the workshop, including a list of resources for future purchases
  • Private link to real-time video showing the full workshop process.

What to bring

  • BYO fabric* (see below)
  • A pair of good, sharp fabric scissors if you have them, but no worries if you don't (I have plenty)
  • A pair of ordinary craft type scissors
  • An old credit, or store loyalty card (something that doesn't matter if it gets a bit bent)

Fabric*

  • BYO FABRIC:  The detailed info you need re. type and qty of fabric will be emailed following booking
  • In summary: you'll need a piece of fabric minimum width 110cm. Best types are natural fibres (cotton or linen) or mix of natural and poly.  AVOID thick/stretchy/frayey/silky/sheer or stiff.
