About the event

What

Participants will not only be going home with their own fabulous bespoke lampshade, but will get a thorough grounding into the craft of modern lampshade making (where the fabric is bonded to a stiff lining).

There is no sewing involved in this method - and the materials used are professional shademaking supplies as used in the industry.

Your tutor is professional lampshade maker Kate Malfroy, who runs workshops from her south coast studio, and other locations around NSW.

You can choose to make either a medium sized drum shape or tapered shape shade - options are shown at checkout.

In this beginner-level workshop there is a max of 12 students so you are guaranteed personal attention.

Difficulty

  • No prior knowlegde, or skills are required - this is Lampshade Making 1.01
  • Kate will guide you step by step through the shade-making process, sharing numerous tricks and tips of the trade whilst doing her best to make this experience as enjoyable as possible
  • A reasonable degree of physical dexterity with your hands is required (ie: acurate scissor cutting)
  • Refreshments are provided
  • Tip:  Of the 2 shapes available in this workshop - Drum shades are definitely easier (ie: less fiddly)

What's included

  • All the supplies are included in the workshop fee (except fabric).. this includes professional quality adhesive backings, frames, and tools

  • BYO fabric (see below)
  • Good Scissors (don't worry if you don't have any - there'll be spares available)
