About the event

What

Participants will not only be going home with their own fabulous, unique shade, but will get a thorough grounding into the art of bonded lampshade making (ie: the fabric is bonded to the stiff lining).

You can choose to make either a drum shape or tapered (Empire) shape shade in a choice of sizes (S, M, L and XL) - options shown at checkout.

In this beginner-level workshop there is a min 3/max 8 students so you are guaranteed personal attention.

You'll be learning all the tips and tricks of the trade, and I guarantee will be leaving with a stunning, professionally finished shade to perfectly suit your home's decor.

Difficulty

No prior knowlegde, or skills are required.  I'll be guiding you step by step through each stage of the process - although it is a little fiddly - I'll be doing my best to make this as easy and fun as possible!

What's included

  • All the supplies you'll need are included (except fabric*).. this includes professional quality adhesive backings, frames, and tools
  • Morning tea (with homemade yummies) is included

What to bring

  • BYO fabric*, or purchase here. I have a huge stash of quality fabrics, as well as sample books from a range of Australian and international fabric houses. If you'd like a particular fabric you've seen elsewhere I can probably order it for you with a minimum of 3weeks notice
  • If you have a pair of good fabric scissors please bring them, but no worries if you don't (I have plenty)
  • Please bring an old credit, or store loyalty card (something that doesn't matter if it gets a bit bent)

Fabric

  • Full fabric details will be emailed asap after booking
  • In summary: the most suitable fabrics are quilting weight cottons or lightweight linen
  • Least suitable (ie: most difficult for beginners) are furnishing or mid weight, with heavy or chunky texture, and super lightweight (silks/sheets) or stretchy (Lycra, knits)
  • Qty: 0.5m of full width (110cm) is sufficient for most shades

What else

  • Kits are available to purchase if you'd like to turn your lampshade into a pair, or another size/shape entirely
  • Lampshade supplies, and fabrics are also available to purchase on the day
  • Please either bring cash or your credit card/phone to pay

Cancellation

Due to the difficulties of refilling short-notice vacancies in small-group workshops:

  • 7-0 days before the workshop, sorry - No refund
  • Workshop tickets are fully transferrable, so if you can't make it - it's fine to pass it on to a friend to come instead

Further info

Following booking an info sheet will be emailed to you with all the details about our location, what to bring and more.  If you have further questions please don't hesitate to contact me via the Contact form.
