About the event
What
Participants will not only be going home with their own fabulous bespoke lampshade, but will get a thorough grounding into the fabulous craft of modern lampshade making (where the fabric is bonded to a stiff lining).
There is no sewing or glueing involved in this method - and the materials used are professional shademaking supplies as used in the industry.
Your tutor is professional lampshade maker Kate Malfroy, who runs workshops from her Jamberoo studio, and other locations around NSW.
You can choose to make either a drum shape or tapered (Empire) shape shade - options shown at checkout.
In this beginner-level workshop there is a min 6/max 10 students so you are guaranteed personal attention.
Difficulty
No prior knowlegde, or skills are required - this is Lampshade Making 1.01 .
Kate will guide you step by step through the shade-making process, sharing numerous tricks and tips of the trade whilst doing her best to make this experience as enjoyable as possible!
Tip: Â Of the 2 shapes available in this workshop - Drum shades are slightly easier
What's included
- All the supplies are included in the workshop fee (except fabric).. this includes professional quality adhesive backings, frames, and tools
- We'll stop for a quick morning tea - tea and coffee and homemade biccies supplied
What to bring
- BYO fabric*
- Scissors - if you have a good fabric pair please bring them, as well as an ordinary craft pair (there'll be spares available)
- Please bring an old credit, or store loyalty card (something that doesn't matter if it gets a bit bent)
*Fabric
- QTY: Â you need a minimum size piece of full-width (110cm) x 50cm
- TYPE: Â Â best are lightweight cotton, or poly-cotton mix; Â linen or any other lightweight natural fibres, IE: Â quilting fabric is IDEAL!
- Tips: Â Avoid anything with a loose, open, coarse weave; Â upholstery weight; Â slinky, sheer or stretchy,
Location
The Bowral Art Gallery is located in the gorgeous village of Bowral, right in the heart of the beautiful Southern Highlands of NSW. The Lampshade Workroom is very excited to be collaborating with this prestigious institution and looks forward to offering regular workshops here in future.
The studio space is purpose-built for arts and crafts work, and there's parking right at the door.
If you don't live locally, why not make a weekend of it? Â You'll be spoilt for choice with oodles of accommodation, eating and entertainment options!

Take-home Lampshade Kits will be available to purchase if you'd like to turn your lampshade into a pair, or make another size/shape entirely
Cancellation
Due to the difficulties of refilling short-notice vacancies in small-group workshops:
- 7-0 days before the workshop, sorry - No refund for cancellation, but...
- ... Â tickets are fully transferrable, so if you can't make it - it's fine to pass it on to a friend to come instead
